Chapter Fourteen: I Find the Print of a Man's Naked Foot

          In chapter fourteen of Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe...Crusoe finds a footprint on the shore while he was going towards his boat. This left Crusoe terrified. He was afraid that his corn and animals would be destroyed. His religious hope and faith in God was gone. Crusoe builds an underground cave for his goats to stay in. The chapter ends with Crusoe praying due to the great pressure he is in...

     Most of this chapter was Crusoe  just being terrified. I didn't enjoy this chapter as much as some of the other ones I have read in this book. He did make more building progress by building a cave for his goats, though.

Chapter Fifteen: I See the Shore Spread with Bones

Crusoe finds bones on the island...

      In chapter fifteen of Robinson Crusoe By Daniel Defoe...Crusoe discovers that there are cannibals on the island, after discovering bones. In order to kill them, he builds a pit on the top of the hill where he sits with his gun. He realizes that he was in no danger of being caught by them for a long while, and he decides that it would be inhumanly to kill other people. Crusoe thanks God that he is not one of those people. He goes on to talk about the few things he wants, though he is in a good condition. He talks about how he would like to brew beer, but decides that there would be no way to preserve it. For some time the only thing Crusoe can think about is killing the cruel humans and saving the victims. He talks about some ways to kill them. He also talks about going up to his castle every morning  to observe them and see if there are any ships coming. He talks about their cruelty and how he can not know how God would judge them. Crusoe ends this chapter with a prayer that he would not be captured by these savages...

      I enjoyed this chapter much more than the last one. He talks about all kinds of things that the savages do. This chapter greatly shows how well God protected Crusoe. I am excited to see how the next chapters will play out.

Chapter Sixteen: I Seldom Go from My Cell

     In chapter sixteen of Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe...Crusoe talks about how he rarely leaves his home and removes a lot of things to keep from being found by the savages. He talks about some of the things he can't do much anymore because he doesn't want to burn fires. Crusoe goes on to talk about how he discovered a cave while cutting down wood. He turns around to cut a thick branch and discovers a pair of shining eyes staring back at him. Crusoe is frightens but discovers that it is only a goat. He later talks about how he is already in his twenty-third year living on the island. He talks about losing his dog and cats. He goes on to talk about the savages that he watches. One day he sees them with the remains of a body. This disgusts him. Crusoe talks about his anxiety caused by thinking about being eaten by them. Crusoe ends the chapter by saying that he had a strange encounter with them...

      I enjoyed this chapter. I like reading about his experiences watching the savages. It makes me nauseous thinking about their cannibalism, though.

Chapter Twelve: I Make Myself a Canoe

                                                                                   Crusoe Builds his Canoe....

      In chapter twelve of Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe...Crusoe works to build a canoe. He talks to himself about how he will do it. He designs the boat and then goes and cuts down a huge tree. It takes him more than a month to prepare the tree, but he is happy with his result. He can not move the boat with his hands, so he thinks about a way to build a dock or canal. After realizing that this would take many years, he decides to leave it alone. He then finishes his fourth year on the island. This gives him great comfort, and he thanks God by studying His Word. God's grace gives Crusoe a knowledge he had never had before. He looks at what is life could be like at this point, and he remembers his family. He also thinks about how he was able to escape the problems he had faced in the past. He thinks about the places he's been, like Brazil, and his voyages. Crusoe is satisfied with everything God has done for him.He decides to make more clothes and some other things. Crusoe goes out and finds a strong water current from a hill. After staying here for a while, Crusoe wakes up to find that he is in the water. He says to himself that there is nothing that he can do. The current is to strong for him to paddle or do anything. Crusoe barely escapes, and lays on the ground to rest. He hears a voice that he discovers is his pet parrot...

       I liked this chapter, but not as much as some of them. Crusoe spends most of this chapter reflecting on his life and what he has experienced. He was in a near-death experience, though, so it was fun to read about that.

                                                                                              Crusoe Makes his Dairy Farm...

      In chapter thirteen of Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe...Crusoe reflects on the danger he has experienced. He spends some days sitting and thinking. He wanted to get the boat, but he does not want to go that way because he was scared of what he would stumble upon. He spends about a year thinking. The only thing he could ask for would be to see people. Crusoe is happy with the skills he has taught himself, considering his low supply on tools. He talks about some things he has made, like a tobacco pipe. He realizes that he is low on things like gunpowder. Because he is unable to kill food, he decides to set traps. He sets some hand-made traps in a field where goats usually eat. He also digs a pit where he captures three young goats. After a while, he finds that he has gained twelve. He trains them and milks them. He is happy to see that he has he has made himself a dairy farm, and has gained himself another food source. The chapter ends with Crusoe talking about everything he has accomplished and built on the island...

      I liked reading about how Crusoe got his dairy farm in this chapter. He talks about everything he has made and done, too, which has already been talked about in the book.

Chapter Ten: I Travel Quite Across the Island

     In chapter ten of Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe...Crusoe packs up his gun and ammo, along with other supplies like tools and food. He then builds a bower and sails across to the seashore. He talks about how clear the sky is and talks about a large piece of land that he sees as being a large island or a continent. He then goes on to talk about the savages living near the area he is exploring. He obtains a parrot which he brings to take home. He talks about the animals he sees, from foxes to tortoises. After venturing for a long while, he discovers an area filled with turtles and birds like penguins. He takes a different route home where he finds himself in a large valley. He stays here for multiple days, wandering around because he is unable to see the sun. He makes a collar for a small goat he finds, which he decides to take home along with his parrot. He talks about how gentle his little goat is, and he talks of how it follows him around like a dog. He talks about how much God has blessed him, and how emotional he has been while thinking about the         island he is on...

       I liked this chapter. It was interesting to read about the animals and land he discovers. I also liked reading about how he obtained his goat and parrot.

Chapter Eleven: I Am Very Seldom Idle

      In chapter eleven of Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe...Crusoe divides his hours to set a schedule for work and adventure. He takes a time each day to pray to God. He talks about cutting down a huge tree that has been in his way. He goes on to talk about how he lost a large portion of his crops because he decided to sow his seeds in the dry season. He talks about the birds eating all of his plants and him starving to death with no food. This makes him angry and he ends up shooting some of them. Crusoe is later able to harvest his plants and he is able to learn and get better at bread making. After many attempts at making pots out of clay and other earth ware, Crusoe gets very good and learns some tricks for making things. After some time of baking, planting, and making pottery, Crusoe decides it is time to return to his ship. He finds that is is badly damaged by a storm. He is disappointed to find that he does not have the strength to put the ship where it should be...                                                  
                                                                                                                        Crusoe improves on the way he harvests crops...   

      This chapter wasn't as interesting as the last one, but I still enjoyed it. I read about the progress he made with his crops, making food, and making pots. It was fun to see what he went through in this chapter.

Robinson Crusoe: Chapter Nine: I Sow my Grain

     In chapter nine of Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe...Robinson improves the way he raises his crops by getting used to the rainy and dry season. He talks about how he has saved some barley and rice. He decides to plant some and save a handful of each. Because he planted it in dry soil, the drought destroyed them. He later planted some in an area of moist soil that he found, and he came back later to find that his crop grew very well. He later travels to what he calls his country house, where he cuts down wood. He makes baskets and other difficult things which he has mastered. The chapter then ends with him talking about making stew and planting. 

     

     This chapter was definitely more interesting than the last one. I enjoyed reading about him making the baskets and stuff. I enjoy reading about his adventures and the problems he faces.

Robinson Crusoe: Chapter Eight: The Journal

     In chapter eight of Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe...Crusoe talks about his experience on the island in short summaries. He covers everything from the shipwreck to how he made a shelter. His recordings start on September 30 where he talks about the shipwreck during a dreadful storm and how he almost died. He then goes on to talk about how he gathered supplies and found a place to stay. He talks about all of his adventures which have already been talked about in past chapters.He covers over how he fought savages and builds his hut, and how he got materials and food. Crusoe also talks about the good and bad effects that the rain causes...      

      I think this chapter wasn't as good as the other ones. He just covered what has already been said earlier in his journey. I am looking forward to the next chapter.
